If you've never had a professional spray tan before, it's completely normal to have questions — and maybe a few nerves. I remember my own first spray tan and wishing someone had walked me through exactly what would happen. So here's the honest, detailed breakdown of what to expect when you book your first session with Southern Glow Co.
Before Your Appointment
The day before your session, follow the prep tips I recommend: exfoliate with an oil-free scrub, shave if you plan to, and skip all lotions, deodorants, and perfumes on the day of. Come to your appointment with clean, dry, bare skin. That's it — you don't need to bring anything special.
When I Arrive (Mobile Setup)
Since Southern Glow Co. is a mobile spray tanning service, I come to your home with everything needed — a professional spray tent, HVLP spray gun, extraction fan, and premium NUDA Sunless solution. Setup takes about 5 minutes. We just need a small space with a hard floor (or I can lay down protective material on carpet).
The Consultation
Before we start, I'll ask about your skin type, any sensitivities, and what shade you're going for. Want a subtle "I just got back from vacation" look? Or a deeper, more dramatic bronze for an event? We'll pick the perfect NUDA formula and blend for your skin tone. There's no pressure and no wrong answer — I'm here to make sure you love the result.
During the Spray
You'll step into the spray tent and I'll guide you through a series of simple poses — arms up, turn to the side, face forward. The whole application takes about 10-15 minutes. The solution feels cool and mist-like. It doesn't hurt, it doesn't smell bad (NUDA formulas actually have a light vanilla scent), and it dries within seconds.
As for clothing during the spray: you wear whatever you're comfortable with. Some clients go completely bare, some wear a swimsuit, some wear disposable undergarments. There's no judgment — we do this every day and your comfort is the priority.
Right After the Spray
You'll step out of the tent looking noticeably darker — that's the bronzer guide coat, which is a temporary cosmetic tint so I can see where the solution is going. Your actual DHA tan develops over the next 8-12 hours underneath. I'll apply a quick finishing spray, go over your aftercare instructions, and you'll change into your loose, dark post-tan outfit.
The Development Phase
For the next 8-12 hours, avoid water, sweating, and tight clothing. When it's time for your first shower, rinse with lukewarm water only — no soap. The brown water you see is just the guide coat washing off. Pat dry, and by the next morning, you'll see your true, gorgeous color.
